Ongoing cancer treatment at KHC in the TeleChemo Unit with Tracy and Bridie as the TeleChemo nurses.
The treatment requires attending the KHC; undergoing tests, chemo and subsequent results and it is a comfort to have all of these available only 10 minutes drive from home.
Prior to the introduction of TeleChemo to KHC, I had to attend another hospital in Perth monthly for my treatment.
Aside from the out-of-pocket expenses involved with these trips, it meant risking isolation/quarantine in Perth every time someone managed to bring the COVID-19 virus to Perth, and the subsequent lock-down of the Perth and Peel regions.
This combined with the known benefits of living in my own home with my own family when you are undergoing treatment, and permitting me to hold down a casual job at the time, have helped make this demanding process much easier on morale as well as wellbeing.
Of course, all the above is a fantastic outcome for TeleChemo in my opinion, the patient and the staff, but the big win is having a collection of people committed to helping us: the patient, settle into a mostly trouble-free process and show genuine care in our treatment.
I name Bridie and Tracy, but I felt the whole team from pathology; imaging, through to the TeleChemo team are as important and deserve mention, as do the rest of the team who work to keep KHC clean, safe and operational.
