"My admission for a day surgery"

About: Kerang Hospital / Theatre

(as a service user),

I had a curette done and the staff were amazing. In my experience, they certainly make you feel special no matter what! I woke up not feeling too good but it wasn’t long and I was feeling much better! Had some lunch and coffee and water!

The only thing I would like to see changed at all hospitals is the sandwiches which have tomatoes on them! So that is fine for some people but if you have a gut issue it’s not good! They ask you what you are allergic to so you tell them and of course, it’s not the fault of the nurses but I think it does need to be dealt with as many of us have gut issues and can’t eat anything with seeds which includes tomato. I am suggesting that tomato be removed and replaced with maybe chicken and avocado!

Dear Sher52,

Thank you for taking the time to share your recent experience, and to know that you felt special and cared for. Our staff in theatre are always striving to make everyone feel this way. I’m glad you began to feel better after your surgery with some nourishment.

I appreciate your comments about the tomato sandwich and the issue that some people have with seeds. Your request for no seeds was noted at pre-admission and emailed to the kitchen staff, so there may have been an omission of follow through. Your feedback will be received by the kitchen, so I am sure you will receive a reply too.

I do hope your recovery is going well and thank your for sharing your story and for your suggestion too.

Kind regards

Margy

Dear Sher52,

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience.

The catering staff did receive notification concerning your request for no seeds., Even though we make every effort to accommodate dietary requirements, unfortunately in this instance an error was made.

If the situation arises again please notify the staff in the Day Surgery Unit and they will organise a more appropriate sandwich. I do sincerely apologise for this error and hope you suffered no ill effects. I will pass on your feedback to the Catering & Domestic team.

Kind regards,

Wendy

All good, thanks, I didn’t eat the tomato sandwich.

Not a big deal just letting you know as cafes don’t seem to listen! I would also like to say thank you for the phone call recently, we were out driving at the time! 🤙🤙
