"Medication and treatment order"

About: Box Hill Hospital / Upton House

(as the patient),

I was an inpatient at Uptown House for around a month. I was diagnosed with schizophrenia and they put me on Invega which gave me a lot of negative side effects like tremors, nose bleeds, night sweats and headaches.

When I tried to tell them that, I didn't feel listened to and one of the staff even said I was pretending to shake. I felt like they didn't change my medication fast enough and I had to deal with those side effects for a while. I was subjected to a treatment order and I felt like they don't want to let me off the treatment order if I decide to go off my medication to see how I go without them.

Dear fieryknight

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience from when you were admitted to Eastern Health's Upton House.

I apologize you didn't feel listened to and you felt it took a long time for your medications to be changed. I note you mention you are on a treatment order and am sure you are having regular contact with your treating team. It sounds like you have continuing questions regarding why this is in place. My suggestion is to ask your treating team for further clarity why this option has been implemented.

I will pass your comments onto the Upton House team so they can understand your experience further to see what, if anything, might be able to be changed.

Kind regards,

David
