My close family member was recently admitted to Armadale Hospital ICU. I found the paramedics who attended at their home were great. I felt they persuaded my family member that it was really important to go in the ambulance as my family member was not convinced despite how poor their condition was. My family member spent a few days in the ICU which in my opinion, obviously reflected how seriously unwell they were.
Particular thanks to Dr Yves and Dr Ione and ICU nursing staff. On the 2nd day when I visited, Dr Yves called me by my first name and when I expressed surprise at his remembering, I recall he responded that it was because he cares about his patients and their families. I have often felt invisible as a family member supporting my loved one in health services so was very touched by his genuine response. This care was reflected by all of the staff who cared for my family member.
From ICU my family member was transferred to Canning Medical Ward where they also received attentive and competent care from everyone concerned. Other relevant services - mental health, alcohol and other drug - were also included in my family member's assessment and treatment and I believe they responded respectfully and in a family-inclusive way.
Overall, the care that was taken to achieve the best possible outcome for my family member was excellent. At all times I felt confident that my family member was in very good hands which was really important given the seriousness of their condition. Thank you to everyone concerned.
