"The exceptional service and support"

About: Sale Hospital / Emergency Department

(as a parent/guardian),

After an appointment with our local GP, I was advised to take my toddler son to the emergency department at CGHS in Sale for respiratory issues. We waited less than 5 minutes before we saw a Triage nurse who, within moments of monitoring him, organised a bed in an isolated room.

The doctors and nurses all introduced themselves and advised what they were doing and why. A paediatric MET call was made as his stats were a little low. Again, the response was quick but with care taken not to frighten my son.

Once he was stabilised, we were moved to the paediatric ward and placed in an isolated room as there was a risk that we might have Covid. Due to my son's condition, it was decided we would stay the night to be monitored.

I believe the support from the doctors and nurses was amazing. All having to gown up each time, even if only to pass through the meal trays. We did a high-five when the negative Covid result came through 24 hours later.

The service and support from every person we came into contact with was exceptional. We were sent home with a clear care plan. I never felt alone and knew if I had any concerns, help was just a button press away.

Dear aprilcw89,

Hello, my name is Kim and I am the Nurse Unit Manager of the Women’s and Childrens Unit. Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. Feedback allows us to understand what has been done well or how we can improve and is always valued.

It was pleasing to learn that you felt the care you received from the Doctors and Nurses was, as you wrote, ‘amazing’. As a team, we all aspire to provide quality care to our clients and your feedback provides confidence that the team have done this. I understand how concerning it can be to have a sick child and the added challenges parents can experience when their child is required to isolate. I am satisfied knowing that you did not feel alone and your care needs were met without exception.

I will take pleasure in sharing your story with the team and know that they will be encouraged by your kind words.

I hope your son has recovered well.

Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have anything further to discuss.

Yours Sincerely

Kim Costin
