I am absolutely horrified and shocked after calling Geraldton’s radiology department recently to make an appointment for an ultrasound sound only to be told the next appointment is after Christmas, in more then 6 weeks time!

I recall I was also told that maybe I should pay to have it done privately at another hospital due to wait times. What an absolute joke I believe it is to say that this hospital services the Midwest and you are expected to wait over 6 weeks for an ultrasound that I understand takes no longer then 10 minutes.

I apologise for any distress with the wait time for an ultrasound. WACHS-Midwest does aim to provide high-quality, compassionate care and I am sincerely sorry we are unable to offer an appointment sooner.

The medical imaging team at the Geraldton Hospital works hard to service community need however there are times when prioritising demand for acute, non-acute and pregnancy related ultra-sonography extends the wait for an appointment. If there is any uncertainty of acuity the sonographers contact the referring clinician.

The hospital team is currently reviewing inpatient and outpatient service demand in order to plan how we will deliver ultrasonography in 2022. Our goal is to ensure access to accurate timely ultrasonography that guides treatment.
