My elderly parent suffers from Parkinson's and had some dementia-related issues so was sent to Monash Clayton for further tests. Victoria was at 90% COVID vaccination yet the hospital would not allow any visitors. The initial doctor contacted me and advised the following day which was great but from then on no one called.
My parent got an infection which they failed to call, it was only when I called and complained that they let it slip that my parent got the infection two days earlier. I complained to the head nurse I believe, who hung up on me. When I can talk to a doctor they are never there and don’t call back (one nurse said they had left a message yet didn't take my phone number, when I questioned this they said as I recalled, well it's probably on the system). Eventually, they said they’d call daily with updates, this lasted two days before again we heard nothing.
We are stuck not being able to see my parent and getting no information from the hospital and on the day of writing this story, they tell me my parent's not eating but are happy that she is managing to drink some of the meal replacement drinks - my parent needs help to drink so I know that they will be struggling with these drinks. I’m extremely concerned something is going to happen to my parent, they are elderly, weak and declining and in my belief, it will go unreported because no one can access the hospital. I feel this is extremely poor service. I believe the hospital COVID restrictions are not keeping up to date with the Government restrictions.
