"Our experience at Fiona Stanley and Perth Children’s hospital for emergency surgery"

About: Fiona Stanley Hospital / Emergency Department Perth Children's Hospital / Emergency Department

(as a parent/guardian),

Appreciation Post:

My son had to have emergency surgery recently. The emergency night staff at Fiona Stanley Child’s hospital were fantastic at in the early hours of the morning. I felt they were so on the ball, made the transfer to Perth Children’s hospital seamless. It was also great seeing an old colleague as well. They even half prepped him so he would be ready for them to get a line in. As all ambulances were ramping I drove my son up to PCH so they were unable to do the cannula.

Within 5 minutes of us arriving we were seeing the surgeon and my son was being prepped for surgery.

The ED staff, nurses, consultants, surgeons, anesthetist’s, recovery staff, and ward staff, and orderlies we encountered were brilliant. These awesome people went the extra mile to put my son’s mind at ease make the process as a whole less scary for him.

My son and I were so thankful. Next time you're at the hospital I ask you to please be nice to them as a little kindness does go a very long way and I believe can have a butterfly effect.

Dear volanstz96,

I was so sorry to hear that your son recently required emergency surgery. As a parent, these moments in life are extremely stressful and emotional. As such, it really means a lot that during this time you were able to notice the caring staff we have in our paediatric ED here, and furthermore took time out of your day to share your gratitude.

Thank you. Please be assured I have shared your compliment with the team. And I echo your sentiments – a little kindness goes a very long way indeed.

I do hope your son has recovered, and wish you and your family all the best for the future.

Kind regards,

Neil Doverty
