"Best level of care"

About: Bunbury Hospital / Maternity

(as the patient),

I can’t speak highly enough of this health care system. Based on my experience, the midwives go above and beyond their duties and strive to give the best level of care.

While things went a little pear-shaped during my labour, I was cared for by a midwife, Christina, that I felt cared not just about my immediate wellbeing, but of my future wellbeing and of future births. She also went to the extent of debriefing with me after a few days postpartum, explaining her thinking and why she did/didn’t do certain things. I found it really took the amount of care to the next level by acknowledging my mental healing and not just the physical healing.

I honestly cannot thank Christina enough for the experience she gave me, even when I thought I didn’t want it at the time. She had empowered me for my next birth. I’d just like to acknowledge Christina and also Amy for their service to me and other women. In my opinion, these 2 ladies and the other ladies of the MGP offer women like me beautiful continuity of care that goes beyond a job...thank you for all that you have done and are doing Xx

Dear violetxj39,

Thankyou so much for your feedback.

Labour and birth is very much an emotional and psychological journey and the debriefing and processing of that journey in the postnatal period can be incredibly valuable as you have described.

Continuity of midwifery care has been shown to be the gold standard of care and your experience certainly reflects that so again thankyou for taking the time to share your story. WA Country Health is committed to providing this level of care to women and their families in rural and remote areas. Midwifery Group Practices are now also in Broome, Northam, Carnarvon, Collie, Bridgetown, Manjimup. Hopefully soon we will have continuity of midwifery care models available in even more rural and remote towns for local families.

Christina will be grateful to know you felt so supported by her; and that through her ongoing support, knowledge and expertise you have been able to reach a place where you have a sense of peace with your journey that brought you to meet your beautiful new born. I will be sure to pass on your feedback to Amy and Christina and to the team.

Warm regards
