"Emergency department"

About: Armadale Hospital / Emergency Department

(as a parent/guardian),

I took my, at the time, 3 month old baby last year with gastro. In my opinion, it was beyond ridiculous, after waiting for about 2 hours they told me to go home and I felt did absolutely nothing for us.

Recently I went back with my child, who is almost 18 months and my toddler. We got there after in the afternoon and left later in the evening. They gave my kids a couple of icepols and got us waiting for an hour for a prescription that did not even mention for how long I have to give my child this medication for.

They kept coming and going and after 3 and a half hours they sent us home, in my opinion, worse than when we arrived, as my kids were hungry and tired of being locked in that tiny room. I believe it is devastating to have what I think is such a disgraceful level of care at this hospital. In my opinion, they are useless to say the least.

Dear magpienk69,

Thank you for taking the time to write to us and provide valuable feedback regarding your two experiences taking your children to our Emergency Department at Armadale Health Service.

I was very concerned to read about your experiences and would like to offer my sincere apologies that you have felt unhappy with the level of care by the service as this is not consistent with the values of the organisation.

Whilst I am unable to fully investigate the concerns raised without further details, I can assure you that I have discussed your feedback with the Head of the Emergency Department and frontline staff to ensure they are aware and respond to the issues raised and the impact on you as a parent.

We would appreciate the opportunity to look into your concerns more specifically and invite you to contact us via our Consumer Liaison Office on (08) 9391 1153 or AKG_ConsumerLiaison@health.wa.gov.au so we can discuss further.

Thank you again for sharing your experience, and I hope your children are now recovering well.

Kind regards

Di Barr
