"Telehealth appointments"

About: The Alfred

(as the patient),

I had a telehealth appointment for a follow-up consultation with the surgeon who conducted my recent operation.

My appointment was scheduled for mid-morning and I was still waiting an hour and 45 minutes later.

I was then asked to hang up and that someone would call me on my mobile phone. I still waited for the call. I followed this up with an email to the department and then was finally called back around midday. Two hours later.

I am a subcontractor. I lost an entire days' work and my absence affected the operation of my workplace.

I believe everyone is affected due to a lack of communication. In my opinion, not good enough!

I understand that the public system is under pressure and this demand is further exacerbated due to Covid,  however, I believe letting patients know is crucial so that we know what is going on and subsequently we can make an informed decision on what to do.

Unexpected delays do happen and I understand that. However, I feel it is common courtesy and out of respect for the individual that people are included in the conversation. This gives individuals choice and some control over the situation.

Being left waiting without information for hours is, in my opinion, very, very disrespectful. Not good enough!
