Almost two weeks ago I presented in the ED of St John of God Midland with my partner as I thought I was miscarrying my first pregnancy. I was in a lot of pain but I wasn't bleeding much.
The ED was busy, and we had to wait 3.5 hours before we went through, but the staff we dealt with were kind and caring.
Once through to the ED I was examined by a junior doctor I think, who sent me for an ultrasound, where we found out I had a ruptured ectopic pregnancy. I was shocked and scared and heartbroken.
I had emergency surgery less than an hour later. All the nurses, doctors and anaesthetists who spoke to me in that hour before my surgery were amazing. It was the scariest and saddest time in our lives and the staff were so comforting, kind and compassionate to both my partner and I. One nurse even made us laugh, giving us a brief moment of levity amongst the chaos.
I spent a day on ward 3A (I think) and was looked after by the most amazing nurse with a foreign accent (I forgot her name). She was so attentive and made every effort to make sure I was comfortable. Her care was exceptional. I did have a bit of a tough night on ward 3a, as they decided to transfer me at 11pm to a public ward. I didn't get moved until after the early hours of the morning, so I didn't get much rest at all. I believe all my machines were unplugged and started beeping and I felt I was basically left without care for quite some time. I do understand that there were a lot of codes that night.
Once I arrived on ward 2C I felt the care was amazing. All my nurses, especially Georgia and Mercy and the student nurses were so great. Again, kind, compassionate and attentive. Georgia was my nurse during the day and helped me through my first ever hospital stay with her calming nature. I felt so vulnerable and lost, but she was so supportive.
All the doctors who came to visit were wonderful, kind and caring and made sure I fully understand what had happened and how it would impact my fertility and future pregnancies.
Every single staff member I encountered was wonderful, nurses, doctors, consultants, patient support staff, physio, anaesthetists, everyone. They all helped me get through the scariest, saddest and most traumatic period of my life, and I will always remember their kindness.
Please thank each and every one of them, they do an amazing job.
"I will always remember their kind and compassionate care"
