"Time for help"

About: Swan Hill District Hospital / Emergency Department

(as the patient),

I was taken to S.H.H. with bad breathing problems through C.O.P.D. I have been a marijuana smoker for 30+ years and it was time for help. I asked the clinician in charge and they told me to get patches. I said several times it was for marijuana and I recall they told me that I could help myself and walked out.

I was very upset and devastated as I have collapsed discs in my spine so I suffer from anxiety and depression. Because of their actions I would like this dealt with and feedback.

Thank you.

Dear mineralks66

I am sorry that you had this experience with the Swan Hill Hospital Emergency Department and that you were not able to receive the care that you requested in respect of support for your marijuana use for pain. I agree with you that the response of "you can help yourself" that you recall from this experience is not an appropriate action.

I will ask that our Director of Medical Services and the Medical leader in the Emergency Department review your recent episode of care and make contact with you to discuss your further care and referral requirements in regard to your request for support with this addiction.

Could you please contact the Quality Experience and Safety Manager on 5033 9317 or email feedback@shdh.org.au to share your preferred contact details?

Best regards,

Peter

Good morning mineralks66,

I am sorry to hear of your experience here at SHDH. Are you able to get in touch with us so that I can investigate your episode of care and provide some feedback? I myself would really like to know more about the gaps in your experience so that we can provide more assistance to you if possible, but also to improve our service for others.

Kind regards,

Kath
