"Toddler's leg healing"

About: Bridgetown Hospital / Emergency Department Bunbury Hospital / Outpatients Clinic

(as a parent/guardian),

My toddler broke their leg (tib & fib) in a trampoline accident. We attended Bridgetown hospital ED and the staff were incredible, especially Dr Mike, Michelle and Jackie. Dr Mike placed the leg in a back strap and I believe a referral was sent to the fracture clinic for further assessment as the bone is quite out of alignment.

After no word the following day and the day after that, I called the clinic and recall I was told they couldn’t find anything, I chased up the doctor and made sure the referral had been sent. On the third morning, I believe the referral letter was faxed by the doctor to the fracture clinic to follow up, I also called the clinic around midday to ask where we were at. I recall I was again told they couldn’t find anything, and was told yeah, it might be in the system but I probably won’t see until this afternoon at the earliest.

While I recognise it’s not an urgent situation, I am concerned about my toddler’s leg healing in a wonky position. I would like to be seen by the fracture clinic as referred to by a doctor.

Dear booker236,

Thank you very much for your feedback and I will pass on your compliments to the staff concerned at Bridgetown Hospital.

I appreciate your concern and frustration at not being able to get an answer about when your child will be seen at the fracture clinic. Although the matter may not be urgent it is no doubt important for you to have this information.

Please contact Jeffrey Calver (Director Bunbury Hospital, 0499151494) or Rory Stemp (A / Operations Manager, Inland Hospitals, 0427386350) so that we can get your full details and ensure that the referral has been made.

Kind Regards

Anne-Maree Martino

District Manager Blackwood
