"Wanting to renew a script"

About: Exmouth Community Health Service

(as a service user),

I made an appt to see a doctor to renew my script, I recall I had to book about 2.5 weeks in advance due to doctor shortages.

Recently, I was contacted by the provider to tell me my appt is cancelled and that they are unable to take/make any bookings due to the lack of doctors.

I am unable to go to another doctor and there is no online service that can provide me with advice and a script.

So what am I supposed to do?

Dear cantgetascript,

I was so sorry to read about the challenges you’ve been experiencing trying to see a doctor and sincerely apologise for the inconvenience caused by your appointment being cancelled.

Unfortunately, if a Doctor is absent or unable to work their shift it has an impact on the appointments, however you should have been offered another appointment. I have asked the staff to ensure this is the process that is followed going forward.

Regarding accessing advice and a script, we are working to review the practice structure to ensure telephone consults and repeat scripts are easier to access.

Exmouth Hospital is staffed with three full time doctors, with a fourth doctor being used during busy periods. The GP service provided by WACHS Midwest is operational at Exmouth Health Service. As a result of the increased population, while the wait time to see a GP has extended, appointments are still available to be made and we have spoken with the staff to ensure they are informing consumers correctly.

If you do require care and a GP appointment is not available in the required timeframe, please attend the Emergency Department and you will be treated. We are also working to establish a telehealth GP service for those that need to see a Doctor sooner than the next available appointment however does not need Emergency care and envision that this will be in place in the coming weeks.

Thank you again for sharing your story with us. We do value hearing from our patients and their families as it genuinely helps us to improve our care. If you have any problems making a future appointment, please don’t hesitate to contact me for assistance. My name is Grant Patrick and I am the Operations Manager, WACHS Gascoyne. My phone number is 9941 0300.
