"Retina correction"

About: Sydney / Sydney Eye Hospital / Emergency Department

(as the patient),

I was sent to the Sydney Eye Hospital by my optometrist as an emergency. I was driven to the hospital by my son. The minute I walked in everything went smoothly in the emergency department. Ezzy was so helpful he did all the scans and explained everything step by step. At the end he showed me the damaged retina on the computer and I recall he said I needed surgery immediately. After consultation with the doctor they took me to the ward.

I thank all the staff involved in my care in the emergency department. Because of the COVID-19 restrictions I didn’t see my son again until discharge. I was worried and confused and feeling down because I thought I was only going for a check up.

when I was in the ward a nurse by the name of DJ was looking after me, I believe this guy is out of this world he is amazing, he really made me comfortable and cheered me up. It seemed to me he was not only looking after his patients, but helping the other nurses as well, such an energetic person. The way he spoke to his patients I felt was so calming and the way he explained things was so calm and gentle. He would come around and ask if I needed anything, I recall he knew I came unprepared for a stay in hospital. That was pre surgery, and after the surgery the next day, DJ was back helping everyone.

On my discharge, I recall he organised my paperwork and my medication. I believe an amazing bloke, I can’t thank him enough. I believe he certainly has a lot on his shoulders. I wish him all the best for the future

Only 1 disappointing thing I recall is they have put other patients receiving different treatment other than for their eye in the same room. I suppose with COVID-19 our hospitals are short staffed. I thank all the health workers who I dealt with at the Hospital. DJ I’ll never forget you buddy.

Dear indigoyt76,

Thank you for your lovely comment on the care you received during your eye emergency.

I am pleased to hear your care was comprehensive and smooth in the Emergency department, and that Ezzy was able to explain all the tests, procedures and results to you so clearly.

Your comments about nurse DJ are incredibly kind, and I will make sure to let DJ know that his hard work, energy and care for his patients and colleagues was recognised by you. I am sure he will be delighted. It is wonderful that DJ was able to provide you such comfort during a very stressful time.

I want to thank you for the time you have taken to provide feedback on your experience at Sydney/Sydney Eye Hospital and wish you all the best in your recovery from your retina surgery.

Kind Regards,

Jon Magill
