"Communication and consultation"

About: Armidale Rural Referral Hospital

(as a carer),

This is the fourth time my spouse has been a patient in this hospital since late last year. Each visit has left me feeling frustrated by the lack of communication and consultation. I found it has been exceptionally difficult to contact any staff who are looking after my spouse and to receive any updates on what the plan is for ongoing treatment and how they are progressing generally. This has been especially difficult due to the fact the hospital has been under Covid restrictions and I have been unable to visit my spouse. The fact that only recently, my stepchild was allowed to see them, but I am not permitted to do so I believe is not consistent with the hospital policy and I feel is totally unfair and cruel. I am their spouse, next of kin and long-term carer and I expect to be treated with respect and compassion and kept informed of what is happening day to day while the current circumstances are enforced. I do hope that what I have said is taken on board and addressed accordingly.
