I received a call, then an email from Broome Hospital, stating that I needed to attend for a gastroscopy the following week. I then rearranged my work day the following week to attend the pre-anesthetic appointment and was given the time to be there the following day, dietary restrictions etc.
I attended the appointment after having to arrange a housemate to have the day off work to drop me off, pick me up and supervise me afterwards, as well as my work colleague having to cover me at work so that I could take the day off on sick leave.
After laying in a hospital bed for over 2 hours, having a cannula inserted into my hand and all the other bits and pieces hooked up, the clinician finally arrived, looked at my paperwork and informed me that I shouldn't be there for at least another 2 months. It would be fair to say I was very frustrated by this development.
After some investigation, it appears that it was a mistake made by admin. I understand that mistakes happen, but I wanted to pass my feedback on regarding the way that a patient and others close to the patient are negatively impacted by such a small oversight, in the hope that it may prevent this from happening to others. Thankfully the procedure wasn't a colonoscopy with diet, bowel cleanse etc.
