I presented to CGHS in the early hours via ambulance with severe 8/10 abdo pain and upper right chest and shoulder pain.
I believe the clinician and another staff member were extremely rude and they asked why I hadn’t taken panadeine for the pain, seeing as I had received 10 tablets from Chemist Warehouse the day before. I told them that wasn’t true. I hadn’t been to a chemist for pain meds in about a month (due to surgery) I recall they then told me that it’s showing on a register that I had been the day before, I could deny all I like but they will not be treating my pain. I ended up very upset and asked to see this register as it was not true. They refused to show me, saying it was a confidentiality thing.
The staff member then came and took bloods then tells me that seeing as I was the only patient requiring pathology they will not get it done until morning. They told me to go home and come back later. I was in extreme pain at this point so I rang my spouse to take me to another hospital as I could no longer handle the pain.
I asked for a discharge summary so I could show the other hospital what the clinician said about me getting pain meds the day before but they refused to give me one. By this stage, a different staff member came to see me and offered me pain relief and I recall they told me the clinician was wrong. I was beside myself in pain and just wanted my spouse to take me to the other hospital as I felt I was treated so badly. As I was being wheeled out to my spouse, it seemed the clinician refused to look at me.
A few months prior, I had a hysterectomy due to severe endometriosis and had been in and out of hospital due to bowel, bladder and ovaries being fused together and not functioning properly.
The pain has now been put down to it growing back and I’m going to follow up with my specialist.
I rang Chemist Warehouse who confirmed that the last script I had with them was 10 panadeine fort tablets a month ago, prescribed to me by a medical centre. They said the clinician had most likely gotten their months mixed up.
I feel I was treated poorly, not listened to, not given a chance to explain that they’d made a mistake. I recall the staff member yelled at me and made me out to be a liar and a drug seeker.
I’m absolutely disgusted with how I was treated. Not only because they refused to treat my severe pain, but because I feel I was made out to be a liar and sent home in severe pain with severe chest pain that was ignored.
