I am feeling somewhat let down with absolutely no ‘crucial’ follow up to my near death experience at Geraldton Regional Hospital last year. I was scheduled for a procedure on my left shoulder. It has caused me discomfort, basically from the ‘original’ procedures performed some 15-16 years ago at SCGH. On the morning of procedure, whilst lying on a bed to be wheeled through to operating table, I distinctly heard a newly assigned clinician saying to another hospital staff member they are stressed, they are stressed. Then into theatre where I could clearly hear them saying numerous times Pump 6 Pump 5 Pump 6 Pump 0 etc etc. Next thing, I kind of wake back in recovery where I recall 1 of the lovely staff said I did not have the operation, then they said that I’ve been naughty. I thought I had done something wrong and asked. I remember being told they aborted my op as I nearly did not make it. The newly assigned clinician came over and asked me how I was and said they would see me tomorrow.
Next morning the clinician came, tapped me on the leg said how am I? I said I’m okay, I think. And they left. My orthopaedic surgeon saw me a time later at their practice and said he would follow up on what the clinician had done. I then received a call from hospital staff saying the clinician would see me to talk. I told them my orthopaedic surgeon was already writing to them for information. I waited some time and was told very little, so I then proceeded to call the clinician’s office to try and organise a meeting with them and the anaesthetic team. That was months and months ago. I have since rung GRH x2 and heard nothing. I clearly recall my orthopaedic surgeon also telling me on initial visit that they could immediately see my problem. That it was the clip inserted all those years ago at SCGH being placed ‘back the front’. My orthopaedic surgeon has since said it has moved but I know they definitely said it was inserted ‘back the front’!
At the time of my most recent operation, there was no COVID in this State, so any excuse as to why nothing has been followed up with regards to this now so called ‘allergic reaction to anaesthetic’ I believe is lame. Should I ever require an op, should I be injured and unconscious, I could potentially be killed during surgery. I know my GP sent SCGH a letter to be tested (as they do not perform this at GRH) and nothing has been done. I should be informed as to why the NDE occurred on operating table, why no follow up, the apparent disregard for my wellbeing and supporting me with critical information from the clinician. I am very alarmed at the entire situation. I would like a full explanation as my left shoulder is deteriorating and I am ending help and answers from both GRH and SCGH over these seemingly botched operations.
Yours sincerely
