"Broken health system"

About: Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service

(as a service user),

My child is suffering from depression and suicidal ideologies. They saw a Dr once and was supplied SSRI’s with no follow-up or second appointment. My child has been self-harming and when I brought them to hospital we were told there were no beds available. If this is the case now, what will happen when the pandemic spreads? In my opinion, the treatment from the cahms psychiatrist borders on malpractice and I believe this broken health system needs to be fixed now! I guess my next stop will need to be the media.

Dear Needhelp2009,

I am so sorry your child is suffering. They do need follow up after commencing a SSRI and this can be done in a range of ways.

I would like to talk to you about how we can help your child and you to manage what they are going through.

I can be contacted at katie.mckenzie@health.wa.gov.au

Kind Regards,

Katie

Executive Director Community and Mental Health
