My grandchild was born at KDH not long before Christmas.
Thank-you to the amazing staff who all made the experience beautiful.
Special mentions to Jenny, the midwife, who stayed with my in-law (I-L) throughout the labour; to Dr Davina for her caring medical attention; to midwife, Heneka, who cared for both my grandchild and my I-L in the days that followed and to CN Ted who helped my adult child find their sunglasses (sometimes, it's the little things).
You were all kind, attentive, professional yet personable, experienced and above all, caring and compassionate. We felt very confident and comfortable during the experience.
Also, thanks to all staff from kitchen providing great food, cleaners keeping the ward clean, security keeping us safe and all the caring nurses and doctors.
Just 2 complaints, unfortunately (and hopefully, these can be used as learning experiences)...there was a clinician (can't recall their name) who would pop into the labour ward from time to time when my I-L was in labour. I felt they were rude and abrupt. At one point, making remarks about my spouse wearing their sunglasses (which are prescription and they didn't have their usual prescription glasses). But the most concerning comment was when they said to my I-L, if they don't push, their baby will die! Do I need to say that this is so not appropriate to say to a parent in labour, a first-time parent at that!
And secondly, bub was born just prior to the end of our midwife's shift. Night staff came into the labour ward and our midwife said they would follow up on things when they were back the next day. I recall the night staff told them to do a few things before they left, which, after a huge day, (our midwife had come in earlier for a few hours, plus their afternoon shift spent with my I-L), I felt was inappropriate. Our midwife ended up staying back for over an hour! I feel the night staff could have been more understanding and helpful, allowing our midwife to go home and cleaning up and sorting things for them.
Apart from the 2 above mentioned incidents, this was a beautiful experience where we felt heard, cared for and super confident in the service that you all provided. Keep up the amazing work!
