I experienced a state of confusion recently and my spouse bought me into ED at Kununurra Hospital.
Although I don't recall much, I did know that I was being cared for with compassion, kindness, respect and professionalism.
Special mentions to -
- The nurse my spouse spoke to over the phone from Broome Hospital MH. He assessed me well and provided good advice.
- Dr Nathan and the staff in the ED; and the lovely lady who was called in to attend to my CT scan and Dr Alice on the ward. Your care was exceptional. For myself, and in fact, for any MH patient, but especially those with Personality Disorders, being in an episode of confusion or psychosis, or distress, anxiety or panic etc., I believe what patients notice acutely is how they are being treated and the attitudes towards them. I know for myself, that at all times I was treated with kindness, compassion, respect and care. I felt safe and contained. Thank you all for your amazing care!
Regards PATS, (as I had to attend Perth for further tests) and Jane from PATS is efficient and helpful, and despite being in the healthcare profession, I found this process somewhat difficult to navigate. I felt it would be really helpful to have a Social Worker available to assist patients with this process.
And lastly, thank you to the kind, warm and pleasant gentleman who welcomes you at the Coolibah Centre (and, of course, does the routine COVID screening). In my opinion, being the first point of contact is super important and should never be underestimated. He makes people feel welcome and has a beautiful, non-judgemental, caring manner about him.
