Last year my local GP sent me for a ct scan as I had a persisting cough that wouldn’t go away. After the scan my GP rang me and told me I had to go to the Rapid Lung Access Clinic at Box Hill Hospital as they found something on my lung and some lymph nodes were enlarged.
So I went to the clinic and was asked to get a full body scan that would pick up any cancer in my body.
I then was booked in to get my results. My family were beside themselves for Christmas worrying what was going to happen.
When I went back to the Rapid Clinic for the results of my scans I was told there was no cancer in my body. I instantly relaxed, thank you angels. Except in the next breath, the clinician told me I will need a double lung transplant in the next 5-10 years. I went into a tailspin. Hang on, what is happening. No one had ever even hinted at this to which the clinician replied maybe they aren’t as blunt as themselves. So once again myself and my family were gutted thinking the worse because that’s what I had been told.
I recently finished with a phone appointment with my different lung doctor and I flat out asked them do I need a transplant to which they replied if I keep losing lung capacity over the next 8 years I would be in the range of needing a double lung transplant. I do not understand why that clinician told me what they did. There is being blunt and just being nasty, in my opinion. I am supposed to see them again and I don’t want to as I feel they lied to me. I question how can I trust a specialist if it seemed they lied to my face.
