About: Swan Hill District Hospital / Radiology

(as a relative),

My relative has just booked their second ultrasound and on both occasions, we have had to travel hours to have an ultrasound done elsewhere.

As I understand it, our local health service SHDH cannot accommodate the necessary scheduling for the ultrasound, so we have to travel.

I find this very disappointing as we would prefer support locally and staying local.

Dear coinjk53,

I would like to apologies on behalf of the Radiology department for your relative having to travel for their appointments.

Unfortunately there is a country wide shortage of Sonographers and we are having to staff our department with locum staff when we can secure them. I am sorry that we have not been able to secure staff for the times that your relative needs to have their appointments.

The current staff at Swan Hill District Health Radiology are in the process of attending training at larger hospitals to gain further competence in these highly skilled areas of Ultrasound and we have also organised to have tutors come to the hospital to teach. We hope that we will be able to offer a more constant service for our patients in the near future.

It saddens us deeply that we aren’t able to provide this service for our patients.
