"Some staff"

About: Seymour District Memorial Hospital

(as a relative),

During their stay of about 9 days, my spouse said that whilst the majority of the staff were very caring, there were one or two who my spouse felt were very off-hand. The result being my spouse was reluctant to call/ring their bell for fear of their reaction.

Dear severitywx58,

We received notification yesterday of your feedback via the Care Opinion Platform.

I wish to firstly thank you for posting your spouse’s concerns and apologise that their experience whilst at Seymour Health did not provide a consistently high standard of supportive care. Whilst in hospital, it must have been quite distressing for your spouse to feel apprehensive about using the call bell; especially when they are completely reliant on others to provide their care. All patients should feel comfortable asking for help when they are in hospital and we are concerned that your spouse felt reluctant to ask for assistance.

We strive to have all our staff behave in a professional, caring manner. Your feedback will be taken to an upcoming Ward meeting and used to remind staff of the importance of their bedside manner and professional behavior, so this type of situation is not experienced in the future by other patients.

Thank you again for your feedback, which we believe will help us to improve our service.

Kind regards,

Cindy Newman

Dear severitywx58,

I would like to assure you that as a result of your feedback, discussions have been held with our Acute and Urgent Care Centre nursing staff regarding the need to maintain consistently high levels of supportive care.

Regrettably, the Ward meeting where your feedback was to be raised has had to be postponed. However, we have continued to follow up on this matter by providing an email to all clinical staff. This correspondence reminded them of the importance of adopting a professional and caring approach to all patients, to ensure their comfort whilst within our facility.

Once again, thank you for taking the time to write about your experience.

Kind regards,

Acting Acute Nurse Unit Manager
