In my opinion, the Midwifery Group Practice is such a wonderful program offered by King Edward Memorial Hospital. It offers women a continuity of caregiver(s) throughout their entire pregnancy, delivery and the first few days transitioning to home. This was so valuable as a patient who is experiencing dramatic changes to their body and are facing a dramatic change in lifestyle. Having someone I knew and trust guide me through my pregnancy, run my education classes and be there for my delivery and the first few days at home was so reassuring. I knew I could be open and honest with my midwife, and I trusted that she and the backup midwives understood my health situation at all points in time.
I also found a consistent philosophical approach to my care across the midwives of MGP 4 and 5. If my normal midwife was unavailable, I knew that the midwife assigned to my care would not try to detour me from my birth plan and the style of care offered by my original midwife. I felt I could tell they communicated well amongst their teams and worked together to ensure consistent and stable care.
And I found the at-home visits were fabulous! It was so helpful having my midwife in my home, with the equipment and environment I would be using to raise my baby and showing me the best way to use that environment safely and effectively.
I would recommend this service to anyone having their baby at KEMH. They were great, and I have a beautiful, healthy boy as a result!
"Valuable service"
