Dad's in his 90s and after hand surgery at Sydney Hospital Macquarie St, the care required overwhelmed me. Mum had passed years ago and Dad had become high care almost overnight. Kay- a most caring, endearing and insistent nurse- looked after us immediately.
It seemed she managed against great obstacles to get through to services hindered by staff shortage, Covid and red tape to get us immediate care at home. Her determination mixed with kindness towards a non-English speaking pensioner was unreal. As difficult it was at home to care for dad, the support he received through her persistence had allowed me to take a breath and get through the next 8 weeks as his right hand was in a splint. Big thanks to her and the great nursing staff. Their kindness and care were not a fairytale.
