"Surgical drama"

About: Albany Health Campus / Surgical Ward

(as the patient),

I recently had to have my gallbladder removed at Albany Health Campus. I was told everything went well but after the surgery I was in excruciating pain. The pain continued for several days, getting worse every day. Every time I brought this up, I felt the clinician dismissed me and said it was just normal post op pain and would go away. I know now that my blood tests were showing that my liver was struggling worse every day and nobody brought it up with me.

In my opinion, it took a nurse who advocating for me and saying that something was wrong for new clinicians to come in and assess me. They ordered a CT which showed fluid in my abdomen and pelvis and a blockage in my bile ducts. They took me back to surgery the same day (this being about 5 days after my gallbladder removal) and the next day flew me to another hospital to remove the gallstone from my liver duct. As I understand it, my labs showed something was wrong, my pain and jaundice showed something was wrong, but it took 5 days for someone to listen to me. In that time, I dropped 6kg in weight and missed out on time with my new baby.
