"Axe vs leg"

About: Southern Cross Health Service / Emergency Department

I had an accident with my 1/2 axe and stuck it into my leg about an hour out of Southern Cross. I was in a state of concern as the wound was deep and I was about 5km from the main road and around an hour from Southern Cross. I have a dedicated LPG ute so heading back to Kalgoorlie was not an option.

Waiting Time

Waiting time

My wife was incredible driving me to the Southern Cross ED while I held my leg together to stop the bleeding. After our Rat test and admission, I received the best of care from the team and the waiting time was negligible.

Nurse Sandy tended to me and completed everything she could while awaiting for Dr Nnaji to arrive from the clinic. After Dr arrived they went to work on my leg and cleaned and stitched my leg over. I knew that I was in great hands and I believe these 2x professionals deserve all the credit and praise that your system can muster.

All health professionals that have seen the wound since the repair have complimented this team on the work they performed.

I thanked God for the Southern Cross Hospital location and team that day and every time I look at my healed stitches. I feel they are a wonderful dedicated crew providing excellent service to the community.

I do have some more recovery to complete to do with the nerve damage and numbness, but the wound treatment and repair was excellent and I avoided infection when I was doubtful that I would.

Dr and team called me the day after the stiches were due out to see how I was going, I really appreciated the follow up as well.

Very thankful,

Axe Patient

Dear Axe Patient,

Thank you for sharing your positive experience at Southern Cross.

I was delighted to read that you felt the staff provided excellent care and your kind words highlight their commitment to ensuring patients receive the best care. We are lucky to have such a dedicated team at Southern Cross.

It will give me great pleasure in passing on your appreciation to Diane Dixon, Health Service Manager and her team especially Dr Nnaji and Sandy on the tremendous care and follow up they provided.

I hope you are recovering well and wish you the very best.

Kind regards,

Subin Daniel
