"Child's concussion"

About: Canterbury Hospital / Emergency Department

(as a parent/guardian),

We arrived at emergency early morning. The RN who screened us was so kind and attentive. It was cold and outdoors because of COVID. But I was so impressed by how they managed everything. The RNs swabbing those waiting were patient and clear in expectations of waiting times. Because it was so cold and the wait time for our swab was going to be quite some time, we chose to wait in the car.

At one point we did consider going home because my little guy was distressed and very tired. But we were literally greeted by an RN at the car to explain a Dr had already reviewed his case and we were escorted and were admitted to the paediatric ED (which is phenomenal in my opinion). The RN and EN on were so lovely, attentive and caring. The registrar who saw us, she was lovely, patient, empathetic and so kind.

My son, who is nearly 2, we believed had suffered concussion. He loves wiggles and dinosaurs. So they all instantly helped him feel comfortable by explaining to him what they were doing- the dinosaur is hungry (taking his blood pressure on his finger). I cannot fault their care, attentiveness all whilst managing COVID safe protocols. Please though, can you get the team new gas bottles for the heaters and also train the staff on how to use the heaters safely.

I feel you should be proud of the team managing and caretaking your hospital overnight. Please pass on my sincerest thanks. First time mum who will be eternally grateful for how you made me feel and most of all, how you cared for my son.
