"Hospital humanity"

About: Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital

(as a relative),

My sibling was at the Charles Gairdner and they require ongoing care. At the time of writing this story, I believe they were going to discharge my sibling without conversing with their care team around them. The only reason they're in communication is because my parent made them aware the day before. My sibling left the next day with no support workers prepared. One thing that they constantly struggle with is narcolepsy where they fall ongoing and the care team isn't prepared.

I believe the staff have kept telling my parent, my sibling's next of kin and emergency contact that my sibling will be contacted by the drs with no contact by the hospital. They're telling my parent that my sibling's getting discharged with no way to get home. It will be like the recent story on the media left on the kerb side. My parent cannot come to pick them up, my sibling cannot get a public transport due to illnesses preventing them.

Care teams also do not get put in place for when someone is home with zero notice, I believe the hospital had a report given to them by my sibling's drs of all the boundaries faced. I feel there is no humanity at all. I believe they're setting my sibling up to fail.

Dear leatherks53,

Thank you for your feedback on your concerns regarding the discharge planning of your sibling following their care at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital. Please accept our apologies for what must have been an extremely frustrating experience for you and your family.

As Care Opinion is an anonymous platform it is not possible to comment on the issues you have raised regarding your sibling’s care without further information. Please contact the Consumer Liaison Service by emailing CLS@health.wa.gov.au or calling 6457 2867 to provide them with your sibling’s contact details, we will then contact them to gain consent for an investigation to be undertaken.

We really appreciate you taking the time to provide feedback on your family’s recent experience and do hope that future interactions with the Health Service are less distressing.

Wishing you all the best.

Kind regards,

Janet Zagari
