"My blood test experience"

About: QML Pathology

(as the patient),

This is a relatively small issue but I so appreciate the opportunity to share and process the experience.

I was having bloods done recently at QML, Murgon Family Medical Centre, Queensland.

I felt the nurse attending was quite curt and their tone dismissive during the initial questioning, but just accepted this as their personality.

And then when it came time to draw blood, I recall they said my veins weren't very good.

I replied that that's the first time I'd been told that.

The nurse's next question was had I been drinking? I believe that is exactly what they said.

I replied, no (and thought they must of meant alcohol). I was so confused. And then I said that I've been drinking plenty of water.

I recall the nurse then started laughing and saying oh I thought they meant had I been drinking alcohol? I just couldn't believe it.

If you phrase it like: have you been drinking? I wondered how else do I receive that question as a patient. So odd, in my opinion.

There wasn't any problem sourcing the vein.

At the end, the nurse said well I bled so that's the main thing. What the? I felt belittled, confused and insulted...just for having my bloods done.

I usually have my bloods done at QML Kingaroy and had been a frequent visitor there and I found the nurses there are so polite! I won't be attending this QML again after this experience.

Thank you so much for reading and for this space to share, it's really helped me process it all.
