"Seating unsuitability"

About: Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital / Emergency Department

(as the patient),

As a patient with Myositis, presenting due to fall and suspected fractures I found there was no suitable raised seating. This left me feeling frustrated and unsupported.

I cannot stand easily, even when no injuries, from normal height seating and cannot get out of a normal manual wheelchair. It seemed the staff did not offer any alternative while I was waiting.

Luckily my partner was with me and able to go and fetch a raised wheelie walker from home.

Dear Myositis24,

Thank you for taking the time to feedback on the challenges you faced with regards to having appropriate seating in the Emergency Department (ED) at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital. I am so very sorry that we were unable to provide you with the equipment you required to support your mobility whilst accessing treatment for your fracture.

We are very appreciative of receiving feedback from consumers so that we can continually strive to improve our patients experience when accessing services.

I do hope you are continuing to improve and wish you all the very best in the future.

Kind regards,

Janet Zagari

Update posted by Myositis24 (the patient)

I appreciate the apology but ideally would like a response that indicates raised seats will be provided in the Emergency Department waiting area for both patients and carers sections.

Dear Myositis24,

Thank you for your feedback I have followed up with Emergency Department, they have advised that raised seats have previously been put in the waiting areas, unfortunately, they may have been removed to accommodate changes to the flow in the department due to COVID. The Nurse Co-Director, Acute Services, has assured me that raised chairs will be once again placed in the waiting areas.

Kind regards

Chris Cullen
