I slipped in a wet car park and went flying, requiring a trip to the ED in an ambulance. I was anxious after hearing stories of ambulance ramping for hours and long waits knowing I was low on the triage scale however I was sent straight in, seen very quickly by a lovely male consultant (sorry, high on the green whistle and forgot your name), assessed by a lovely nurse who was helping in ED from CCU (so I feel am sure I was out of her comfort zone) who quickly got me some pain relief. I was Xrayed very shortly by a very kind radiographer and then seen again very soon after by another kind and helpful consultant (Nadine) who gently cleaned and repaired my elbow. I recall the ED was full to overflowing but all the staff who I dealt with were kind, helpful and smiling despite me overhearing a multitude of other patients being unnecessarily verbally abusive, threatening and extremely ungrateful of their patience and kind efforts to provide obvious and genuine care, in my opinion. The ED volunteer also went above and beyond to find me some slippers after I lost my shoes.
I was very impressed by the excellent care and kindness I was shown and that I observed was shown to all the other patients. Well done to the RPH ED team during these especially crazy times created by the pandemic and when I believe you are all undoubtedly exhausted by the now chronic staffing issues that come with pandemic. Also a big thank you to your Doctor who stopped to assist me in the street (whose name I think was Liz? And works in your SAFE program?), she also went above and beyond on her way to work to keep me safe and reassured outside in the rain. Everyday heroes.
