"Child allergy service"

About: Sale Hospital / Emergency Department

(as a parent/guardian),

We are providing this feedback with a hope for a change.

Our child was recently admitted to Sale Hospital after coming to the emergency department with a breathing problem and swelling all over the body. Our child was diagnosed with severe allergic reaction and discharged home after overnight stay at the Hospital. We were referred back to our family doctor and she provided a referral to see the allergy specialist at Sale Hospital. To our disbelief, we were told that as I understand it, the local allergy service has been put on hold. Our doctor has since referred us to Melbourne and we were told that we have to wait for about 12 to 18 months to see a specialist in the public system. 

We would appreciate if the Hospital could facilitate what we believe is such an essential & specialist services locally.

Hi Hopeful Family,

Thank you for posting your story. As always it is important that we receive feedback from our community. We continue to offer allergy services via the paediatric team around paediatric allergy assessment and are currently examining ways to strengthen the service through a more formal linkage with a Melbourne Tertiary Hospital.

Clearly it is of concern that you were advised that we do not offer a service. We would be pleased to review your referral and situation more fully.
