Dear Sale Hospital,
I am writing about my young child. Few years before, my child was diagnosed with a nut allergy and received excellent care from the paediatric clinic and the child allergy specialist based at Sale Hospital. At that time, we were advised to have a review appointment in about 2 years time to discuss repeat testing and further introduction of selective nuts.
We are disappointed to learn that the local allergy service has, as I understand it, been put on hold and that it seems the hospital is not prioritising child allergy service. We have been asked to go to Melbourne to see an allergy specialist. We also understand that there is a huge waiting list to see a allergy specialist in Melbourne. We feel that the community is being let down by the lack of understanding of our needs and the significant distress we face in waiting to see the specialist in Melbourne and the hardship we have to endure with the travel to Melbourne. We would appreciate if this feedback is taken seriously and the hospital takes measures to re-establish local child allergy service as soon as possible.
