"Life is at a standstill while waiting"

About: Fiona Stanley Hospital / Neurosurgery

(as the patient),

At the beginning of the year, I sustained a back injury that is extremely painful all the time. The only position I can get some relief is by laying flat and straight on my back. My Dr is managing my pain with codeine and has referred me to Fiona Stanley Hospital Neurosurgery department. That was over 3 months ago and my life is falling apart while I wait.

I'm a single parent, I have no family in WA and now I have no income and the reality is I could lose my house. Day to day chores are nearly impossible for me, not to mention the care of dependants. The constant pain compared with the stress of no income is affecting my mental health. How much longer will it be?

Dear octansem94,

Thank you for sharing your story. I was very sorry to hear of the ongoing pain and frustrations you are experiencing. Unfortunately, without your details we are unable to provide a detailed response so I encourage you to contact the Fiona Stanley Hospital Patient and Family Liaison Service on 6152 4013 or FSHFeedback@health.wa.gov.au to enable this. If your pain and symptoms have worsened, I also suggest that you attend your GP who can contact our neurosurgery team directly to discuss escalation if needed.

Kind regards

Neil Doverty
