I took my teenager to ED after he suffered breathing difficulties during a soccer game. He was in a lot of pain. The nurse who saw him initially was very caring, thorough in her assessment and made sure my teen was as comfortable as he could be. Dr Tom came to see him very soon after. He took the time to listen to my child and did a thorough investigation including an ultrasound. He explained everything that he wanted to do and asked my child’s permission before doing anything. He was very reassuring and addressed all my concerns as a parent. The diagnosis was made and we were able to go home soon after. Dr Tom advised it would take a few weeks to recover and advised to come back if we had any concerns.

The ED unit were all very professional and caring, in my opinion.

Thank you for taking the time to share your teen’s experience in our emergency department. I am really pleased to hear that the team listened to your teen and took the time to explain what they were doing and why, seeking your teens’ permission at each step of the assessment. As you know often EDs can be busy and complex environments so the team works hard to create a bubble of safety and calm around each of our patients.
