"Fracture or no fracture"

About: Hedland Health Campus / Emergency Department

(as a parent/guardian),

My child recently presented at emergency for an xray on their wrist after a netball fall. We were told its nothing. I was then contacted by a DR suggesting someone had found a fracture and my child was needed back for a CT to confirm. We waited after our CT in emergency for quite some time. A lovely DR suggested we go home as the wait was around 3-4 hrs and they would call me as soon as the report came in.

A number of days have now passed, still no phone call to know if my child has a fractured wrist or not. I have contacted the hospital several times to be told they don't do call backs. So what do we do? Assume our child's wrist is not fractured and the bone be damaged?

Dear sagittariusjg98,

Thank you for taking the time to provide this feedback. I am sorry that there has been no further communication with you about your child's injury. Please return to the Emergency Department if they are experiencing pain or discomfort. I have shared this story with the Senior Medical Officer here at Hedland Health Campus and he would like to investigate what has happened regarding follow up for your child.

I encourage you to call Dr Gan on 0459805118 so we can arrange a review.

Warm Regards,

Louise Steedman

East Pilbara Operations Manager
