About: Bentley Hospital / Maternity Ward 2 & Neonatal Nursery

(as a service user),

I had to have my baby at Armadale Hospital in early 2022. 

I am a mum of 4 and I don't drive. I live not far from Bentley Hospital but I was having to catch public transport with my small children to get to my antenatal appointments as my partner works and could not drive us and we have no family close. It was taking me 30 to 45 minutes to get there.

When are they going to reopen the Bentley unit? Based on my experience, we need it back.

Dear correspondenceme38,

Following the COVID-19 pandemic outbreak in early 2020, Bentley Health Service’s Obstetrics and Gynaecology facilities temporarily closed in March 2020. Regrettably, this meant the services were required to be distributed between King Edward Memorial Hospital and Armadale Health Service. I can appreciate the inconvenience this caused many families, like yours, that had to make additional travel arrangements in order to receive both antenatal and postnatal care during their pregnancy journey.

East Metropolitan Health Service transitional plan towards the recommencement of Obstetrics and Gynaecology services at Bentley Health Service is well underway with Gynaecology surgery having recommenced in March 2022, with antenatal clinics also due to return in the next few months.

The recruitment of midwives into WA to ensure there is enough skilled staff to be able to safely transition all services back to Bentley Health Service remains very much a priority as part of our transitional planning.
