"3rd degree burns"

About: Ravensthorpe Hospital / Emergency Department

(as the patient),

I sustained 3rd degree burns on my hand from unleaded fuel catching fire on my hand. I did the appropriate first aid and after a bit of research I determined my burn was of the 3rd degree as it was larger than a 20c piece, was white and charred and on my hand, so I found every site including the St. John first responder app said to call 000. I got my partner to drive me to the hospital, I went in and waited for a staff member to check me out. I recall the staff member told me there’s nothing they could do and it was fine so I wasn’t admitted. I ended up with massive blisters, unbearable pain and scarring.

Dear capricornusdj93,

Thank you very much for taking the time to share your story with us. I am very sorry to hear that your burn has caused you so much pain and scarring and I would encourage you to present to the emergency department if you need to.

It is really important for us to understand what has happened to you. Could you give me a call on 9842 7501 so that I can organise to have your medical record reviewed to identify what we could have done differently and ensure that others do not have this experience?

I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Silvie Miczkova
