"The birth of my daughter"

About: Broome Health Campus / Maternity/Midwifery

(as the patient),

What a whirlwind the birth was. Straight into spontaneous active labour from the offset, 7 hours labouring at home with birth pool, tens, soothing music and using my voice to match the pain and with each surge she was brought closer. Got to hospital just in time for second stage of labour lasting 36 minutes and she was born hot and pink into my arms 😍

I sustained a 3a tear which I was pretty devastated about. I had the most natural labour, and then ended up in surgery with a spinal and antibiotics afterwards. I was upset that I didn’t think to get onto my hands and knees, but for some reason my body just wanted to be standing when delivering. But all’s well that ends well and I’ve been recovering really well, just taking it really easy and saw a pelvic floor physio who gave me an exercise plan.

The hypnobirthing course paved the way for us to feel relaxed and at ease and for me to trust my body and instincts entirely.

Dear cheetahyc34

Thank you for your wonderful story, it certainly sounds like you had a fabulous labour. Spending those first number of hours at home, in what sounds like an amazing environment, certainly adds pleasure to the birthing experience.

It is a shame that you sustained a tear, an unfortunate risk for a standing delivery. I am so glad that you are healing well and have been provided with postnatal care from the physio.

Thank you again for sharing your positive birthing story.

Kind regards

Sally Clark
