I recently had to take my child to emergency when they developed severe abdominal pain. We rang health direct who said to go straight to emergency. As I was covid positive (my child wasn't) I told the triage person and we were led to some chairs outside. The triage nurse put protective gear on and triaged my child. We were then led to an isolation room where we waited until they had a bed available. The doctors and nurses were very good, however I feel there could be improvements made.
The initial area outside where we had to wait I found was very cold and exposed to the weather so most chairs were wet, and they weren't great conditions for a sick child, in my opinion. When in the isolation room, I recall there was only a button for emergencies, no call bell. I felt my child was worsening but had no way of letting the nurses know as there was no way of getting anyone's attention.
Lastly, when my child had to go for an ultrasound they asked if they could take my child alone as I was covid positive. I was surprised by this as my child's only young and they were in severe pain. This would've made them scared on top of that.
