I presented to the ED with 6/10 abdominal pain which was impacting on my ability to walk. After the Dr reviewed me, I recall they didn't think it was anything that required calling in the radiologist for. I begged for an ultrasound and they ended up giving me a referral to the private clinic and I paid for it myself. I painfully walked to the ultrasound and back and was told that there was a 4cm mass and apparently it was nothing to worry about. On my return, I felt I was laughed at by another staff member when they asked about my pain, I recall them saying pfft, certainly doesn't seem that bad, and then I requested pain relief multiple times which I never received just a script to hopefully be able to fill as it seemed I was discharged with no reason for the pain...
Long story short, lucky I knew my body and drove to Kalgoorlie Hospital where it was found that I was having an internal haemorrhage resulting in emergency surgery, haemoglobin level of 50, 3 blood transfusions and a week in ICU.
