"Amazing Care"

About: Royal Perth Hospital / Emergency Department

(as a parent/guardian),

My daughter had been diagnosed with pericarditis a week before at another hospital ED in Perth.  Unfortunately, this was not a great experience.

She had a flare-up of the symptoms, but due to her prior bad experience, she was reluctant to seek medical help. However, her symptoms of central crushing chest pain were so frightening to her that she did seek medical help and went to another hospital, Royal Perth Hospital ED.

She was assessed, observations taken, and triaged as an urgent chest pain patient and followed a chest pain protocol. In my opinion, it was a perfect textbook assessment and management, timely access to diagnostics, and professional and empathetic care delivered by caring medical and nursing staff. Staff acknowledged her condition, validated her cardiac diagnosis, and referred her on for long-term care.

Truly amazing professional care, thank you so much, RPH. I was also able to be present to support my very frightened daughter who is a young adult, who never really believed she would experience chest pain at such a young age.

Dear rhinocm44

I was very sorry to read of your daughter’s recent concerns with her healthcare resulting in an Emergency Department (ED) admission. Attending the ED can be an overwhelming experience regardless of age, and so it was heart-warming to read that as a parent, you were able to be present and support your daughter during this time.

I am proud to say that our ED team at Royal Perth Hospital do provide ‘truly amazing care’, thank you for reaffirming this. I will take great delight in sharing your Care Opinion story with the team.

Best wishes to your daughter and family. I am pleased she is now receiving the care she needs and wish her well with her future healthcare journey.

Kind regards,

Dr Lesley Bennett
