My partner and I are expecting our first child.
It is very exciting times. I was due for my 1st scan recently at 8 weeks. We were advised that my partner - the father of the child - was not allowed to attend the scan. We were quite devastated by this fact as its very exciting and nerve wracking and obviously I wanted my partner to be there with me.
I had to take a RAT test to enter the hospital and also wear a mask - so why could my partner not also take a RAT test and wear a mask too?
I went to the scan on my own and my partner and I had decided we would facetime each other so that at least he could still be involved.
On the day I asked the person conducting the ultrasound if I could facetime my partner. They said no. I recall they gave no reasoning why - just a plain no.
At the time of writing this, I am due for my another scan soon, as I am further along in my pregnancy.
We are fearful that again my partner will miss this ultrasound as the rules will not change and he will again miss an incredibly exciting and monumental part of the pregnancy.
We want to find out the sex of the baby and my partner should be allowed to be there to share this with me and bond with the baby also.
In my opinion, the risks associated are incredibly low, yet I believe you are denying a father his opportunity to experience all the joys of a first time pregnancy.
We feel this is incredibly unfair and that the rules need to change as we do not want him- or any other fathers to be - to be missing out on any further ultrasounds and the opportunity to bond with their baby and experience the pregnancy milestones.
