"Refused appointment despite my referral"

About: Kalgoorlie Health Campus / Medical Imaging

(as the patient),

I was referred to the Medical Imaging department at the Kalgoorlie Health Campus, for a nerve block procedure earlier in the year. I have followed up several times to book an appointment, only to be told today that they will not book an appointment for me. I was told that the usual wait time for this type of appointment is 6-8 weeks, however I have been waiting 11 weeks and the staff member I spoke to seemingly refused outright to book me an appointment at all or advised for when I would be able to book.

I understand I may not get an immediate appointment, but the hospital will not even book it in for a future date. I am now left in limbo and will need to look at travelling to Perth for this procedure - which I have been advised PATS will not assist with, because it could be performed here.

Dear Country Patient,

I am sorry for the difficulty accessing an appointment for your procedure with the Medical Imaging Department at the Kalgoorlie Health Campus and the frustration this has caused you. As you are aware there is a wait period for these procedures as they require a visiting specialist, who comes regularly from Perth. However, eleven weeks is longer than the typical waiting time and I am very concerned if you have not yet had a booking made.

If you have not yet been contacted with a confirmed appointment time, could you please make contact directly with Alicia Michalanney, the Director of the Kalgoorlie Health Campus on 9080 5817 or via email Alicia.Michalanney@health.wa.gov.au. Alicia will be happy to follow-up directly with the Medical Imaging Department to ensure you are booked in as soon as is possible.

Kind regards

Peter Tredinnick
