"ED presentation for child"

About: Kalgoorlie Health Campus / Emergency Department

(as a parent/guardian),

I attended ED with my young daughter. I knew the ED was busy, but I felt that she couldn't wait until her scheduled GP appointment the next day.

Triage nurse - informative, kind, each care was rationalised. Thank you.

RAT Nurse - my daughter had a facial infection and it progressed into the nose so I didn't consent to a nasal swab for COVID, but more than happy for an oral swab if possible. The nurse explained to my daughter that nothing would be inserted in her nose to comfort her, she sought information and clarification and proceeded with a throat swab. Thank you.

The ED Dr who saw my daughter worked really hard to develop a rapport  and spoke with her about school, friends and activities as well as explained what she was doing and why. I was genuinely really impressed and it allowed my young daughter to own what was happening to her and explain it. Thank you. The senior Dr who reviewed her was kind, gentle and communicated in a way that put my daughter and I at ease.

We were provided with a script, medication for the night (as the pharmacy had closed) and instructions.

I know ED can be busy, crazy and full-on. But I wanted the staff to know that their kindness, communication and care is very much appreciated.

Thank you, from a stress-head parent.

Dear LoveCorriander

Thank you for taking the time to provide us with feedback from your recent trip to our Emergency Department (ED), at the Kalgoorlie Health Campus.

I am glad to hear that the experience was positive and reflected the safe, patient-centred care that we strive to deliver for everyone. I was particularly pleased to hear that the team took care to communicate clearly with both you and your child about the procedures they were undertaking. Additionally, I have noted that you identified the television could be improved, so I will take the opportunity for this to be reviewed.

I will make sure this feedback is passed on to the staff in the ED.

I do hope your daughter is now feeling better.

Kind regards, Alicia
