My parent had a fall in Busselton. They fell back 1 metre landing on their head and injuring their ankle.
My parent was transferred via ambulance to Busselton ED. They did an x ray of the ankle and said there was no fracture but my parent had sustained ligament injury. They prescribed them a moonboot for a week, with the use of crutches. This was fitted by the nurse with no support or referral to physio or allied health, no information was provided on when to wear it, how to fit it etc.
My parent has now returned interstate, just over 10 days post fall - they had a repeat x ray and has been told they have a Weber B fracture. So disappointed with the clinical care, if there was doubt from the x-ray I believe a CT should have been considered and furthermore the importance of not weight-bearing would have then been implied.
We were not given any support after discharge - even had to source my own shower chair so I could help my parent shower at my house.
"Disappointed with the clinical care"
